Role Purpose

  • To deliver high quality ABA teaching as part of a class team working directly with children and young people with autism. To support the ABA Supervisor, in ensuring the efficient and effective running of the class to meet the day to day needs of the pupils

Key Accountabilities & Dimensions

Teaching and Learning

  • Conduct 1:1 intensive teaching sessions along with paired and small group teaching sessions using ABA across a variety of settings as directed by the supervisor
  • Key worker for one child in the class responsible for ensuring consultant and supervisors recommendations, directions and programmes are carried out utilising good ABA principles and practice (including using agreed positive handling techniques where appropriate)
  • Supervise indoor/outdoor break sessions snack/lunch
  • Provide personal care (e.g. toileting, nappy changing, dressing and feeding and medication as agreed by Head of School) for pupils
  • Responsible for safeguarding the health and safety of pupils, including maintaining a physically safe environment and following risk assessments as appropriate

 

Data collection/Assessment/Reviews

  • Ensure that salient pupil progress data is collected, summed and graphed. Responsible for regularly communicating data to ABA Supervisor/Consultant. Responsible for ensuring all pupil files, pen portraits, home/school book are written and updated. Ensure all data/descriptions are shared with Supervisor/AHP/Teacher for other reports.
  • Responsible for ensuring accurate and appropriate data collection systems are followed and used as an effective assessment for learning tool

 

Resources

  • Responsible for production, organisation and maintenance of appropriate teaching materials and resources to support personalised targets

 

Training

  • Commitment to continuing professional development in ABA practice and theory, knowledge of the curriculum including the National Curriculum and working with children with autism

  

General

  • To understand and actively implement all school policies
  • To participate in class, multi-professional, school and all staff meetings
  • To carry out any other duties from time to time as appropriate
  • responsible for ensuring effective communication (the right information, to the right people, at the right time)
  • Responsible for the health and safety of self and others using proactive and reactive strategies. This may include using positive behaviour techniques

 

Management Responsibility

  • Ensure the proper application of Ambitious about Autism’s key personnel policies ensuring that relevant reviews take place at individual, team and service level.
  • Strive to improve practice continuously through promoting and monitoring the continuous professional development of your team, empowering and motivating high performers
  • Manage any employee issues within your team with guidance from the people team
  • Maintain and Monitor relevant budgets

 

Safeguarding and Safety

  • Ensure risk assessments and emergency plans are in place and reviewed
  • Ensure safe working practices
  • Safeguarding incidents; medication errors; other incidents and accidents errors are appropriate reported
